On July 27th, 2005, Shear Labs members and friends gathered in celebration of James Javier's successful dissertation defense (see Figure 2). James will be working in the laboratory of Dr. Rebecca Richards-Kortum at Rice University in Houston.

Richard Allen successfully defended his dissertation this past Tuesday. Congratulations Richard and good luck in Seattle!

Bryan Kaehr has received the University Continuing Fellowship for 2005-2006.

Ryan Hill has received the David Bruton, Jr. Graduate Fellowship as well as the Dorothy B. Banks Fellowship Award for 2005-2006.

Dana Wise has been nominated by the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department for the 2004-2005 William S. Livingstone Outstanding Graduate Student Employee Award in the category of Graduate Research Assistant. Congratulations Dana on this honor as well as your successful dissertation defense today!!!

 

March 11, 2005:

Shear Labs is most proud to announce the upcoming post-docs of soon to be graduated scientists Richard Allen and Dana Wise:

Richard will be working in the laboratory of Daniel T. Chiu, at the University of Washington in Seattle.

We will miss them (well, they haven't left just yet...we have yet to throw them a party) and wish them the best as they inflict their new homes with Shear Labs science.

 

March 10, 2005:

Bryan Kaehr will receive an award to attend the 55th Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates and Students in Lindau, Germany this summer.

Gleb Solomentsev received the University Co-op sponsored Undergraduate Research Fellowship.

Bryan and Gleb would both like to thank the Shear Lab water cooler and strong coffee.

 

March 8, 2005:

Congratulations to Professor Jason Shear for being named a 2005 Arthur F. Findeis recipient. This ACS award is given for outstanding achievements by a young analytical chemist.

Shear Labs would also like to announce that Gleb Solomenstev has been appointed as the head of the Shear Labs Microcentrifuge Core Facility (SLMCF).  All those interested in using our microcentrifuge, please contact Gleb for the time and date of the next training session.
